Congress mulls cell phone regulation

Congress is considering passing legislation to stem the rising tide of customer dissatisfaction with mobile phone carriers, [Information Week](http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=206900590) reports.
At a hearing held Wednesday, legislators discussed the need for federal legislation. As consumers have become increasingly frustrated with early termination fees and confusing contracts, some states have stepped in and passed legislation restricting what carriers can do. This has resulted in a patchwork of regulations that vary from state to state. As federal legislation would be uniform, wireless carriers have expressed cautious support for Congressional action, but stress that any solution should not present a barrier to innovation.
