After acquiring Jotspot more than a year ago, Google has finally officially relaunched the project management site as Google Sites. Many analysts are speculating that the service hopes to compete with Microsoft Office.
Google Sites simplifies the array of document creation and sharing tools offered on JotSpots, oinstead focusing on basic templates and allowing for integration with other Google tools, such as Google Docs.
According to the ArsTechnica report on the launch, “many assumed JotSpot would become an important new weapon in Google’s war on Microsoft’s lucrative Office suite. Today, Google unveiled JotSpot’s evolution into Google Sites,
a completely redesigned product which, for better or worse, has Microsoft’s SharePoint and Office products squarely in its sight.”
