After adding the Shill podcast to our lineup last week, and please to announce another new addition: if she hadn’t asked me to be a guest in future, I might not have found this one which would have been quite a shame! This week, Anna Farmery hosts crayon’s Scott Monty on her marketing podcast. Scott discusses the evolution of marketing, including whether or not even really exist anymore, at least in the way that it used to.
Anna wonders if marketing has been replaced with relationships, pointing out Scott’s role as a “relationship manager.” Scott agrees with me that in the corporate world at least, most businesses are still conducting traditional marketing “with a capital ‘M’.” He is quick to point out, however, that relationships will only enhance your ability to move the needle in brand management and traditional outreach. Marketers are struggling in many ways to keep their skill sets up to par with all the Web 2.0 advancements that are changing on a daily basis.
Around the PR Podcast Horn (In no particular order):
On the Record – This week, Eric Schwartzman interviews Duncan Wardle, VP of global PR for the Walt Disney Parks. Duncan discusses his role in launching the Disney World podcast, and offers advice to PR pros entering the digital realm.
Trafcom News – Most of us have seen more than one post or broadcast with tips on getting started, or troubleshooting advice. Donna Papacosta goes the other way, with a terrific podcast detailing the ways in which you can irrevocably screw up– the five big don’ts of podcasting.
Six Pixels of Separation – Mitch Joel is overcome with topics this week, and I am extremely grateful he chose not to go to three hour podcast route! instead, he focuses on a conversation with Edelman’s Rick Murray, who has been tapped to head up Edelman Digital.
PRobecast - It is a full house on the PRobecast this week, with Doug Haslam, Tim Allik, Todd Van Hoosear and Adam Zand all joining in. They cover Bruce Sterling’s recent anti-PR rant, Hillary’s viral music video, and layoffs at the New York Times (also: something about a naked M&M…).
Marketing Over Coffee – What’s the “house list?” Well, it is the topic up for discussion at the Dunkin Donuts this week, as John and Chris discuss the importance of proper upkeep of marketing databases, along with how to avoid winding up on a blacklist.
Inside PR - Congrats to Terry and Dave for being on the cusp of their 100th podcast, without having missed a week (rather impressive!). This week, they feature an interview with Melanie Kurzuk from CNW. Dave also takes some time to promote his other podcast….
The Shill Podcast – Perhaps as a response to my complaint last week that their podcast lacked “meat,” Dave Jones and Doug Walker kick off the show with an interesting metaphor that involves bleeding cows (I’ve discovered this is not the case! Oh well…). Basically, if your brand is already banged up, it will be that much more susceptible to social media piranhas.
For Immediate Release – Shel and Neville covered a number of topics in their usual two discussions on the week, including but not limited to the ways that employee blogging may affect corporate acquisitions, the ins and outs of marketing on social networks,an interview with Connie Reece of the Frozen Pea Fund, and the Gawker vs Edelman showdown from earlier this week.
Marketing Martini- Selecting the appropriate niche in which to target your message is one of the keys to marketing, and the subject of Bill Sweetman’s latest marketing podcast. In his usual short but sweet offering, he discusses website strategies, opt in databases, and finding the right niche.
