Online Ad Revenue Soars Past Radio, TV

by Media Bullseye Staff on May 16, 2008

Online advertising revenue reached a record high of $21.2 billion in 2007,
according to a new report published by the Interactive
Advertising Bureau
. The 26 percent jump helped Internet ad revenue move
ahead of cable television, broadcast television, and radio. 2007 was the fourth
consecutive year of record sales.

With 41 percent of the market, search advertising drove
revenues. The report also shows that consumer advertisers were responsible for
more than 50 percent of spending for the last two years.  While some analysts
are more confident than ever in the staying power of online advertising, others
suggest
that Internet advertising may be particularly vulnerable to a weakening economy.
