Google Increases Search Market Share

by Media Bullseye Staff on August 22, 2008

It will not bring smiles to executives at Microsoft and Yahoo, but Google’s search dominance is only increasing with time.  A new ComScore report shows that Big G’s market share jumped from 61.5 percent to 61.9 percent in July. The growth is especially significant considering the total number of search queries rose by two percent to 7.8 billion.

Google is not the only winner; both AOL and Ask increased their market share by 0.1 and 0.2 points respectively. Those two companies each hold a little more than four percent of the market.  Of course, where there are winners there are also losers. Microsoft dropped 0.3 points to 8.9, prompting some to wonder if Redmond should abandon its search efforts. Meanwhile, Yahoo stock dropped below its pre-Microsoft offer mark for the first time as its search market share fell 0.4 points to 20.5.
