Sling.com to Stream TV and Movie Content

by Media Bullseye Staff on November 6, 2008

Sling Media, the company that produces the Slingbox device that allows consumers to watch their home TV’s at work or on the road, will launch an online video portal before Thanksgiving. The web site will include content from several major TV networks and several movie studios. In addition, video news feeds will also be available from AP, Reuters, and other outlets.

Unlike other video portals, Sling.com will seek to provide a greater suite of tools and more of a human touch, according to PaidContent.org:

It has good IPG and search capabilities, more editorial curation and blogs from editors. Sling.com has tried to build in a lot more social functionalities, like a news feed of your friends, a la Facebook, profiles, sharing, etc. It is also building connections into other social sites, and working on building widgets and apps for those as well.
