Jen Zingsheim was joined this week by Chip Griffin, founder and CEO of CustomScoop, and the special guest was Todd Van Hoosear. Todd is senior analyst and director of client services at SocialSphere Strategies.

  • Peter Kim’s excellent piece encouraging bloggers to break out of the echo chamber and write more controversial and thought-provoking pieces–and to not get trapped in the “Nice-o-sphere.” Is it the format, forum, or lack of manners that causes people to devolve into coarse dialogue?
  • Speaking of being–or not being–nice, our second topic covered whether people should be more cautious about what they tweet. A PR exec from Ketchum recently bumped head-on into this space when he tweeted disparigingly about Memphis, which happened to be the corporate headquarters of the major client he was in town to present to–about social media, natch. Chip points out that people should be able to express opinions, and reminds us that the PR pro in question didn’t say anything about the client.
  • The final topic was covering podcasting–what constitutes a popular podcast, and has podcasting hit the mainstream yet? The panel agrees that it’s growing, but Chip takes strong exception to the suggestion that podcasting is anywhere near mainstream.
