Radio Roundtable: Facebook Places, Dr. Laura (yes really), and socmedia overload

by Media Bullseye Staff on August 20, 2010

This week, Jen Zingsheim is joined by co-host Sarah Wurrey to discuss Facebook Places, the new feature that allows “friends” to check you in to a location (without you knowing); Dr. Laura, and how to manage the incredible volume of new social media tasks heaped on to PR, Marketing, and Comms professionals.

  • First, Jen and Sarah discuss Facebook’s new Places feature, a Foursquare-style check in location tagging…thing. Jen points out that, predictably, the first slew of articles posted on the new feature are about how to turn it off, which can’t be a good thing for Facebook. Sarah points out that like many Facebook feature launches, this one leave her wondering where the feature is, and how to use it–since Facebook never explains these things.
  • Next, they discuss the Dr. Laura controversy–specifically how social media and the 24-hour news cycle fans the flames of discontent, carrying stories like this one much further due to the availability of technology to quickly share and redistribute content that in the past would not have gone far.
