Social networking site Bebo recently announced a deal with major networks in the U.S. and U.K. to provide their content at no charge to members or the content producers. Among those participating in the launch of this new service are CBS, MTV Networks, ESPN, the BBC, Channel Four, ITN, Yahoo! and BSkyB. The so-called “Open Media” endeavor will provide Bebo with valuable content for its members, while the networks will have access to Bebo’s 40 million users at no charge.
Participating video providers will be able to use their own branded players with advertising revenue that they can keep.
