After missing out on a Social Media Club event in Boston a couple weeks ago, I linked to a few posts on the event and caught the eye of blogger and PR pro Jay Moonah. I invited Jay to come on for an interview that those who are completely in the dark about how SEO works (like me!) might have a better understanding.
We discuss some of the basics, and how those responsible for writing the code for a website can work together with marketing and PR teams to find the right ways to optimize the site’s chances of turning up high in the Google (or other search engine) rankings.
I mention that SEO sometimes gets a bad rap in social media circles, and Jay offers some tips for determining if you’re working with a so-called “black hat” SEO marketer, and some of those more “nefarious” techniques.
For those who don’t want to dive into the coding side of things just yet, he gives some basic tips for increasing your link love, one of the key factors determining your rank in search results. Anyone who is an SEO “newbie” should check out the discussion, and perhaps feel a bit less intimidated. I know I do.
