OLPC Unveils $75 Laptop

According to Information Week, the One Laptop Per Child Program (OLPC), dedicated to ensuring that student in low-income areas have the same access to computers as more affluent children, announced the next version of their low-cost laptops this week, with an estimated cost of $75.

The latest version, dubbed the XO 2.0, is far slimmer than the original XO, and is designed for children who must walk long distances to get to school. It also features a touch-screen keyboard that can also be used as a second screen, so that more than one child can use the device.

OLPC Chairman Nicholas Negroponte believes the new laptops will be ready for production in 2010.
